In the 1970s, as a pivotal part of the Prime Minister’s economic reform initiative, the decision was made to establish a purpose-built, specialized port facility for efficient handling of massive imports. This led to the inception of Port Qasim, covering a sprawling area of 12,000 acres. Its strategic positioning near major shipping routes and excellent connectivity to the country’s transportation infrastructure set it apart. Located just 15 km from the national highway, Port Qasim provides direct access to the hinterland via road, supplemented by an additional 14 km of railway tracks interlinking with the national railway network through six dedicated tracks.
