About ACL Tracking

Atlantic Container Line is an American-owned shipping company that formerly operated under Swedish ownership. The Grimaldi group, an Italian company, recently acquired our business and now we operate large container ships between Europe and North America. These container ships use a Load and Discharge (RORO) basis, which allows for quick and efficient loading and unloading of cargo.

ACL was created in 1965 by Olof Wallenius in Stockholm, Sweden. He created a shipping conglomerate consisting of four companies: Wallenius Lines, Swedish America Line, Redry AB Transatlantic, and Holland America Line. Cunard and CGT later joined the consortium in 1967.

In 1976, ACL (Canadian Atlantic Railway) took over Careline, which included its ships, the Montroyal and Montmorency, as well as a direct route to Montreal. The Falklands War was a difficult time for the British, and they lost one of their merchant ships, the Atlantic Conveyor, to Argentine Exocet missiles. The missile hit was so severe that she was the only British flagged merchant ship to sink because of it.
